Work Transition Services

Helping People Make the Transition from School to Workplace

Welcome to Work Transition Services!

WTS operates programs that help people with disabilities to overcome social and vocational barriers to advance in their communities.

Our experienced Career Transition Specialists provide one-on-one vocational support and services to individuals who are interested in gaining competitive work experience. Many of our clients have successfully obtained their first work experience through our services, learning to become responsible and independent young adults as they transition into the work place.

WTS CELEBRATES 5 YEARS AND 500 CLIENTS!
This fall marks the 5th anniversary of Work Transition Services and, coincidentally, the serving of its 500th client! Since 2002, the organization has helped youth with disabilities and social barriers gain valuable job experience, plan for their careers and college while making the transition to the world of work.

Executive Director Jim Grier founded WTS after working for over a decade in service organizations. He served as the national trainer for the Marriott Foundation’s “Bridges from School to Work” program and in various positions in executive leadership at non-profit organizations. “What I wanted to accomplish with Work Transition Services was to form an organization that brought together the best experiences and service systems from my experience that was able to provide direct services while maintaining the independent non-profit’s ability to remain fluid and change with the communities needs. I feel as though we have accomplished this with Work Transition Services and as a result our clients get quality vocational services.” Mr. Grier credits colleagues and community partners with making this all possible. “Quite simply, without the vision and dedication of our Business Advisory Council as well as the unwavering support of community partners, realizing this dream wouldn’t have been possible.”

Work Transition Services provides direct client services through its Life Transition Project which offers job placement, career testing and college planning for clients referred to the organization. The project’s latest endeavor is the development of an employer mentor program which brings employers into classrooms to work with youth and help present the Life Skills Curriculum while lending their expertise to help increase youth understanding and management of the demands and opportunities in the work force.
